Chuck Schmitt
President, SSAB America
Chuck Schmitt is president of SSAB Americas, a leading supplier of steel plate and coil in North America. He is responsible for directing all commercial and operational activities for the company and its overall financial performance in the Americas.
Chuck began his career in the steel industry with United States Steel Corp.’s management trainee program in 1985. In 1990, he joined IPSCO Steel Holdings and held various roles, including head of the southern business divisions in Houston and in Mobile, Alabama. After the 2007 acquisition of IPSCO by SSAB, he was promoted to vice president. In 2011, Chuck was promoted to SSAB’s group executive committee and appointed president of the SSAB Americas business division.
A fourth-generation steelmaker, Chuck received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas in Arlington.
He sits on the board of directors for the American Iron and Steel Institute and the Steel Manufacturers Association.
In 2024, Chuck was recognized by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology as Steelmaker of the Year.
