2023 Scrap Expo: Recap

In its sophomore year, Scrap Expo, which features the largest outdoor exhibit area in the metals recycling industry, attracted nearly 1,000 attendees. In addition to allowing attendees to view and take part in equipment demonstrations, Scrap Expo showcased the latest trends, technologies and practices shaping the metals recycling industry. Held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville from Sept. 12-13, 2023, the event attracted industry leaders from throughout the U.S. who led several informative sessions. Topics included shear and material handler maintenance, the role of software in scrap yards, aluminum markets and the forces shaping the ferrous scrap sector.

Outside the exposition center, the live demonstration area provided an opportunity for attendees to operate a variety of equipment. Attendees were shuttled from the exposition center to the temporary scrap yard on its grounds to witness materials being processed on-site, providing a firsthand look at the latest machinery in action. Among the operating equipment were five new machines introduced at the event, including the Caterpillar MH3026 material handler, the Harris GPS Series Predator, the Sennebogan 340 G telehandler, the Sierra T409 material handler and the Vortex Roter portable baler.

Running parallel to the live demonstration area was an expansive indoor exhibit hall, where attendees had the opportunity to explore the lastest products and services from premier companies serving the industry. The exhibit hall buzzed with activity as attendees engaged with exhibitors, gaining valuable insights and forging new connections.

At the end of the first day, attendees unwound at the complimentary bourbon, cigars and desert reception hosted at the Copper & Kings distillery. Against the backdrop of Louisville's Bourbon City, guests enjoyed an evening of networking in a relaxed outdoor setting. The reception included live music, locally made desserts and an impressive selection of bourbons and fine cigars.

As the curtains closed on another year, Scrap Expo left its mark with a dynamic blend of education, engagement and unforgettable moments of connection.
